Stille · privacy
What we do with your responses.
Plain English. No tracking pixels, no advertising, no selling anyone’s data — ever.
Version 1.0 · effective 24 May 2026
What we collect
When you take the test, Stille collects what you give us:
- Your answers to the 116 personality items (each on a 1–5 scale).
- The sex/gender category you select (or that you preferred not to say).
- Your age (we use this to compare you to a relevant age band).
- The timestamp of when you submitted your test, and when you consented to processing.
We do not collect: your name, your IP address, your location, your device fingerprint, cookies, advertising IDs, or any other identifier that would let us link your responses to you outside of Stille itself. We don’t share data with advertisers because we don’t serve advertising.
Why we collect it
We need your responses to compute your personality profile — that’s the whole point of taking the test. We need your sex/gender and age to compare you against a relevant peer group in the normative reference sample (Johnson 2014, N = 619,150), because personality scores show real average differences across these groups. Without this, your scores would be less accurate.
How long we keep it
For now, Stille retains your responses indefinitely. Because v1 does not require you to create an account, we have no way to link a specific submission back to a specific person — which means we cannot delete an individual’s anonymous responses on request. If you want the option of later deletion, wait until the account-creation feature launches (planned for v1.1) and take the test then.
If you give us an email address (when accounts ship), we commit to fulfilling deletion requests within 30 days.
Who else sees your data
Stille uses three third-party services to operate. We’ve picked them deliberately and your data only goes to them in the ways described:
- Supabase (Tokyo region) stores your responses and computed scores. They are our database provider and are contractually bound as a data processor. They do not use your data for their own purposes. Supabase privacy policy.
- Vercel hosts Stille and provides basic page-view analytics. The analytics is cookie-free and aggregate — Vercel does not see your individual responses or demographics. Vercel privacy policy.
- Anthropic (when the AI-insights feature ships in v1.1) generates personalised written interpretations from your scores. We send only the band-level summary of your scores — not your raw responses. Anthropic retains these requests for up to 30 days for safety / abuse monitoring, then deletes them. Anthropic privacy policy.
Error monitoring
Stille uses Sentry to catch errors in production so we can fix bugs. Before any error report leaves your browser or our server, we strip out anything that could identify you or contain your responses — including request bodies, URLs with identifiers, and cookies. We never enable Sentry’s session-replay feature (which would record your screen). If a Sentry error report is captured, it contains only the technical detail of what broke.
Contributing to better comparison groups (optional)
If you tick the optional consent box at intake, your anonymised responses may be used to build Stille’s comparison groups — including a dedicated New Zealand reference group and, eventually, a non-binary reference group (which needs a much larger sample — see our methodology). Your responses become part of a larger statistical aggregate; nothing about you specifically appears in any output.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:
- Ask what data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct it
- Ask us to delete it (if we can identify you — see above)
- Object to how we’re processing it, or withdraw your consent
- Export your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@stille.place. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
Stille is for adults. You must be 18 or older to take the test. We enforce this at the intake step.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we’ll bump the version number at the top and (when account creation lands) email account-holders before the change takes effect. The historical versions of this page will remain available on request via the contact email above.
About this policy
Stille is operated as a sole-trader project by Gemma Kerr, a registered psychologist based in New Zealand. This policy was drafted plainly and in good faith. If something here is unclear, email us and we’ll explain — or update the wording so the next reader has an easier time.
